IEPs/504 plans/Neuorpsych reports…all of these can feel overwhelming especially if you are walking through them for the first time as a parent. SD Learning Support will spend time answering your questions, guiding you through the different points or scores on the reports, and helping you feel like these reports are your tools. Also available as an advocate at any meeting or simply support at any meeting.
Educational Therapy (or specific remediation) sets a goal of teaching a student how to learn and advocate for themselves as a learner. This is different than tutoring in that tutoring helps complete a specific task. Jessica Gentry is trained in the following research remediation programs to help support those with either dyslexia, dyscalculia, executive functioning delays, and more: Orton-Gillignham, Lindamood-Bell, Seeing Stars, Visualizing Verbalizing, Read Naturally, Great Leaps, CogMed, Seeing My Time, Making Math Real, Woodin Math, Marcy Cook, RAVE-O, and more.
Tutoring can be helpful for a student that does not have any specific learning challenges but just needs support getting through a tough subject. As a former math specialist, math teacher (grades 5, 6, 7, 8) and someone serving on Brilliant.org’s teacher advisory board I am comfortable with math up to 12th grade. Further as a former chemistry and physics teacher, science is something I’m well-equipped to support. Writing, Language Arts, and some foreign languages are also able to be supported should your student need an aid in doing their best in a particular subject.
